URI Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering

URI’s new $125 million engineering complex is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation amongst its students and faculty. DBVW worked closely with Ballinger, a Philadelphia-based architecture firm and the lead architect on the project. Ballinger designed a building that features a large structural truss framework that allows uninterrupted open interiors for flexible laboratory, teaching, and meeting spaces. Working closely with URI and the Design Team, DBVW was responsible for the design, layout, and coordination of the engineering teaching labs, senior capstone design spaces and associated maker spaces, all general purpose classrooms, a 60 seat active learning classroom, and two 72 seat flexible active learning classrooms that can be transformed into a larger presentation room. Additionally, working closely with Ballinger, DBVW was responsible for the faculty office wings and departments chair suites as well as the design and procurement of the furniture and finishes throughout the building.
