URI Carothers Library and Learning Commons
The first phase of this multi-phased renovation at the University of Rhode Island’s Carothers Library transformed a large, open space into an innovative student learning environment. The Learning Commons was designed to promote different learning styles, including individual study, large collaborative group study, and small group study. Private and group practice rooms, and carefully designed open seating arrangements with wired-in technology interface, promote different levels of student interaction. DBVW’s work on this project included full renovation of 10,000 square feet of space, including furniture and finish selection.

Sean has been with DBVW Architects for nearly 20 years. His laser-like focus on design detail and solid team management skills make him a natural leader and have earned him success with many of DBVW’s most complex projects. Sean’s experience ranges from higher education to multifamily housing to cultural to commercial design. No matter the project type, Sean’s clients can depend on him to manage the quality, schedule and budget to exacting standards. Sean is on the Board at Trinity Repertory Company and has served on several committees at The Gordon School. He enjoys time outside the office with his wife (who is also an architect) and son.
