St Bernard Church and Parish Center
A beautiful 12-acre site containing a historic farmhouse and surrounded by stone walls provided the setting for a new church and parish center. The design of the new buildings utilizes vernacular architectural forms and materials in new ways to create a dramatic space for worship and community functions. The exterior features stepped roof forms and board-and-batten siding evoking simple rural churches and New England farm buildings. In the church sanctuary, exposed trusses and ample diffused daylighting enrich a space that is at once contemplative and inspirational.

Michael’s interest in modern cities, vernacular structures, industrial heritage and rural life has led him to many foreign countries and remote villages and informs much of his work.
