Save The Bay’s Hamilton Family Aquarium

Save the Bay operated an aquarium at Easton’s Beach in Newport for many years, but significant challenges due to climate change at that site prompted the aquarium’s relocation. With its location at an intermodal transportation hub, The Hamilton Family Aquarium creates a new “gateway” to downtown Newport. Located at the convergence of a bus line, a bikeway, a ferry landing, a cruise ship port, a major vehicular artery, and a very walkable neighborhood this new Newport amenity is likely to make a big splash! The project transformed an inactive information center into a focal point of activity to provide patrons with a unique educational experience that both studies and cares for the creatures of Narragansett Bay. The aquarium is designed to include 12 display tanks, holding over 10,000 gallons of water. From touch-tanks to “The Bay at Night”, the exhibits offer educational and interactive experiences for nature-lovers of all ages.
