RISD Co-Works Fabrication Lab

Rhode Island School of Design hired DBVW Architects to renovate a former bar in downtown Providence for use as a shared making shop facility. At approximately 4,000 square feet, this has become a place for undergraduate and graduate students to explore and prototype their ideas. Rather than a typical art studio focused mostly on final results, the purpose of the shop is to focus on the process of making and is to be a place for experimentation with materials as well as methods of fabrication. The space has been designed both to promote collaboration and to create new synergies by bringing together students from different areas of study.
