Bellforge Arts Center

In 2014, residents voted unanimously to acquire approximately 134 acres of the former Medfield State Hospital property and accept the challenge of re-purposing this beautiful plot of prime real estate. Medfield’s cultural leaders envisioned the site (which is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places) as housing a cultural and educational campus for the visual and performing arts that could also include horticulture, agriculture, and the culinary arts. DBVW is working with the Town of Medfield and the Cultural Alliance of Medfield to adapt several buildings on the MSH’s campus (including the former chapel, infirmary, canteen, and dining/service buildings) into the Bellforge Arts Center. Work completed includes creating existing conditions drawings, completing a building conditions survey and report, programming, and conceptual design and renderings. Part 2 historic tax credit submission for Phase I was prepared and approved in Spring 2019.
