Franklin Pleasant Street Housing
The Community Builders and DBVW are currently working to create a new 64-unit multi-family affordable housing development in Franklin, MA. The new community will be comprised of seven New England-style buildings and incorporates one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments as well as a community center, management offices, central laundry and maintenance workshop. The design manages density while harmonizing with the existing steep topography by creating walk out units at the lower levels and maintaining buffers to abutting properties. The two- to three-story structures are clustered together to minimize site clearing and are nestled into the existing hill to reduce building scale. A combination of gable, shed and hipped roofs are designed to keep the buildings’ scale and style compatible with surrounding properties, melding traditional and modern building styles & technologies. The all-electric development will be designed to Energy Star Multifamily and Enterprise Green Communities standards, including electric vehicle charging stations and infrastructure for the addition of solar panels. Additional outdoor amenity areas include a dog park, trails connecting to a nearby conservation area, and a community garden.

Karissa has been an important member of the DBVW team for over fifteen years and has worked on numerous project types. She is a leader in both our multifamily residential and schools practices. With her experience working with non-profit housing developers to create affordable and market rate multi-family developments and helping school departments to reimagine their educational facilities, Karissa is often a go to team leader for these types of projects. When she joined the firm in 2006, her first assignment was working on the design of DBVW’s new offices; not an easy task when you consider the “client” was 30 architects and designers. Karissa’s known by clients for her dedication to each project, friendly attitude, and excellent communication skills.
