Union Crossing, a 400,000 square foot mixed-use development involving two historic mill buildings, is intended to be an important component of a new neighborhood that is carefully integrated with the existing fabric of the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Within this neighborhood, residents will be close to family, friends, work and business. DBVW Architects is working with Lawrence Community Works on Union Crossing Phase II - a 132,000 square foot former textile mill with impressive views of the Merrimack River and the North Canal. Working collaboratively with the developer and community stakeholders, DBVW is rehabilitating this historic mill to accommodate a mix of uses including approximately 70 units of affordable housing and significant commercial space. Because of Lawrence Community Works’ focus on family housing, the building contains two and three-bedroom units that are family friendly, with tall ceilings, generous kitchens, and effective sound separation between units. The project utilizes State and Federal Historic Tax Credits.
